Komodo Island has been recognized as one of the new seven natural wonders of the world. Together with Rinca and the other islands that make up Komodo National Park, it is one of the few places globally where you can see Komodo dragons in their natural habitat. Additionally, the island is home to 25 different endangered animal species.
Due to issues with poaching of these unique creatures, the island may face temporary closures for tourists lasting up to a year. It is strongly recommended not to seek out these exotic animals on your own, as they can be dangerous and doing so is illegal. Always hire an official guide while visiting the island. Approximately 2,000 residents live on Komodo Island, relying on fishing and goat breeding to provide food for the giant lizards.
